Yeovil Town have bolstered their defensive options by signing Seb Naylor on loan from Bristol City. The 21-year-old will stay at Huish Park until 3 January, adding versatility to a squad sitting fourth in the National League standings with 25 points from 13 games.
Naylor, who can operate at left-back or in midfield, arrives to gain vital first-team experience. He has been a consistent performer for Bristol City's Under-21s and made one senior appearance for the Championship club last season.
Manager's perspective on development
Sporting Director James Ellis explained the thinking behind the move. "Seb has been on the fringes of the first team since he joined Bristol City and has made a significant impact playing for the Under-21s," Ellis said. He added, "This move gives him the opportunity to gain vital senior experience at a club in the South West in a very competitive division." Manager Billy Rowley also views the loan as a key part of the player's development pathway, stating the club has been monitoring Naylor for some time and believes he can make an immediate impact.
Current form and upcoming challenge
The signing comes as Yeovil Town prepare for a key home fixture against Altrincham this Saturday. The Glovers are in strong form, unbeaten in their last five matches with three wins and two draws. Their most recent outing was a 5-2 victory over Leatherhead in the FA Trophy, a result that showed their attacking power. Yeovil have scored 32 goals already this campaign, with their defensive record also strong, having conceded just 13 times in the league.
Naylor, a product of Manchester City's academy before joining Bristol City, signed a long-term contract with his parent club this summer. His arrival provides timely reinforcement as Yeovil Town aim to close the ten-point gap to league leaders Boreham Wood. The defender is expected to be available for selection against Altrincham at Huish Park, where a win could see Yeovil consolidate their position in the play-off places.
