Dear Glovers, I wanted to reach out personally to thank you for the tremendous backing you gave the team at Huish Park on Saturday. In my time at the club, I cannot remember an atmosphere quite like the one generated during the match with Carlisle United. It was one of the largest home crowds of our ownership, but more importantly, the noise, energy and encouragement from the stands made a genuine difference. The players felt it. The management felt it. Your support gave the team energy and helped drive them forward. I have always believed that supporters should never simply be expected to turn up. Football is an entertainment business. We have a responsibility to put a team on the pitch that people can identify with, give supporters something to believe in and demonstrate a clear sense of direction. In Billy, we have a manager who understands fans and understands this football club. In the dressing room, we have a group of players who are giving supporters something to get behind. Football has a habit of punishing anyone who gets carried away too early, so I say this with the appropriate caution, but I hope we are beginning to see the first signs of something progressive taking shape. That makes this Saturday another important afternoon for us. The 12.30pm kick-off is earlier than we would traditionally choose. I have previously been open about my concerns around displaced kick-off times in lower-league football because they can affect attendances and matchday revenues without clubs necessarily being fully compensated for that impact. At the same time, I recognise the reasons behind the National League’s broadcast strategy and fully support the League in its efforts to grow the competition and take it to a wider audience. Our job at Yeovil is therefore to adapt and make the matchday experience as attractive as possible regardless of kick-off time. So once again, I am asking you to come out in numbers on Saturday and get behind Billy and the players. We will be opening hospitality from 10.30am, with the Fanzone and Alec Stock Lounge opening from 11am. Following the match, the Fan Zone will remain open for an hour, with live music and an opportunity to stay behind, enjoy a drink with friends and dissect the afternoon’s football. We were really encouraged by the number of supporters using the Fan Zone last weekend. We also recognise that there were delays at busy periods immediately before kick-off, and we apologise to those who had to wait longer than they should have for a drink. We are reviewing that, along with the feedback we have received around the Alec Stock Bar, and will continue making improvements. One thing I hope we are demonstrating through this ownership is that when supporters offer feedback, we listen. We will not always get everything right first time, but where changes can be made, we will try to make them. Finally, I simply wanted to acknowledge the part you are playing in what we are trying to build. Since I arrived at Yeovil Town, the warmth and support I have personally received from so many of you has meant a great deal. More importantly, there is a growing sense around Huish Park that the team, the club and the supporters are beginning to pull in the same direction. That is something worth building on.
